Peach season is finally here! I just started seeing fresh peaches in the grocery store the last couple of weeks in May, so those prime-tasting peaches are right around the corner! There are so many things you can do with peaches and they pair so well with a multitude of foods. This week, I bring you a fresh peach and ginger smoothie! Perfect for any breakfast or snack, this smoothie hits the spot!

The great thing about this fresh peach and ginger smoothie recipe is that you don’t actually HAVE to use fresh peaches if you don’t want to. Canned peaches work just as well! I also tend to like slightly spicier foods, so the fresh ginger gave this smoothie a mild kick. If that’s not your jam, you can use ground dried ginger, which tends to be a little more subtle.
With many of my recipes, I try to limited added sugars as much as possible. That’s why I opted for plain, non-fat Greek yogurt instead of a flavored one. Flavored yogurts tend to be packed with loads of extra sugar! For many people I’ve counseled in the past, I have said it was better to add a little bit of your own sweetener instead of letting the companies do it for you because odds are, you would add less on your own. I will say, this smoothie is not that sweet. The honey adds some balance to the tartness of the plain Greek yogurt, which keeps the flavor a little more neutral.
Another personal preference of mine is to use non-fat Greek yogurt over full-fat Greek yogurt. Full-fat yogurt has a higher saturated fat content, so for this recipe, I swapped the fat in the yogurt for the healthier unsaturated fats (and fiber!) in the ground flax seed.
